Background:
I wanted to draw inspiration off of the bats of Oaxaca and had a hard time easily finding a name that flowed well. Nighthawks are also a prevalent bird in Mexico and are commonly referred to as a “bull bat” due to being confused as bats. Also works because at first glance it looks as though your drinking a manhattan but it turns out to be very different.
Inspiration:
One of my favorite combinations is coffee and mezcal. I also wanted to make this as basic and easily replicated as possible. Even the most simplistic bar has sweet vermouth and some form of coffee liqueur most likely Kahlua.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Peloton de la Muerte Mezcal
- 0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth (I used Carpano Antica but ideally any will work)
- 0.25 oz Coffee liqueur (I used Cafe Lolita, but any should be able to work)
Method:
Stir ingredients, pour into coupe or Martini glass, and garnish with an orange peel.
